Lower Wensleydale Guided Walks

Two walks from the architecturally interesting village of West Burton. There are regular buses and good parking around the Green, but take care not to block driveways:

Northern Route via Aysgarth and Sorrelsykes Park

Distance: 5.5 miles / 8.8 km
Ascent and Descent: 616' / 188m

Start from the Green (this walk can also be started from the National Park Centre at Aysgarth Falls). With your back to the bottom of the Green take the right hand lane, past the Butchers, towards the Post Office and Shop. At the PO turn right and follow the one-way road as far down as the Reading Room on your left (opposite a house called Meadow Croft). Take the footpath to the left of the Reading Room marked 'Road 75 yds'. Cross straight across the road and proceed through a wicket gate on a footpath marked 'Eshington Bridge'.

North East Route via Hudson Quarry and The Preceptory of the Knights Templar

Distance: 4.7 miles / 7.5 km
Ascent and Descent: 870' / 265m

Start from the Green at West Burton and walk down to the bottom of the Green where you take the track to your right marked 'Footpath to Morpeth Gate and Cote Bridge'. After viewing the delightful waterfall and surroundings take the path across the bridge and climb up and out of the woodlands to turn right over fields on a path leading towards another wood. Go over the stile into the wood and take the footpath uphill marked 'Hudson Quarry'.
